Pap's Core Values

Before moving to Adams County, I grew up in Western Pennsylvania. My grandfather lived in Latrobe his entire life. But when I first started in business in the 1980s, he would drive across the state to visit my mom and would come down to Littlestown every time just to "check out your houses and see what you're doing."

Needless to say, Pap was my strongest critic! It was like a whole team of inspectors arriving all at once, ready to go over each home I was building with a fine-tooth comb. Pap worked in the building industry for over 60 years as a plasterer… designing exquisite moldings for many renown public buildings across the country such as The Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

But more than anything, Pap was a true perfectionist! Whether he was refinishing furniture, canning tomatoes from his garden or putting a golf ball, it had to be done right! And as he would tour the homes we were building, you could bet that his old “eagle eye" never missed a trick.

As I build homes, I know darn well that those values of quality that Pap instilled in me when I was a kid are what truly guide me every single day. When I was four years old, Pap bought me a small tool chest - with real tools! And one of the first things he showed me was how to use the little miter box to cut wood and make corners that fit together perfectly. Today, I have some of the best crews in the business because I want the little details like corners around doors, windows, etc. to be exact. After all, Pap might be on the way to "check them out!”

My grandfather passed away in 2006 at the age of 96, and I will never forget when his neighbor told me that they saw him outside mowing his lawn that very morning. I wasn’t the least bit surprised when I heard that because Pap always wanted to make sure the job was finished to perfection…even the job of life!

As you tour our model, we urge you to look for the quality which New Age brings you at every turn. When I made the decision to build homes, I knew that I could never compromise quality just to keep the price competitive. We here at New Age Associates believe in treating every home we build like it’s our own.  We passionately believe in the statement “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.” That’s what Pap always taught me and that’s what I will always continue to do.
